Pakistani fundamentalists are thrilled and the Italy is already celebrating
India’s election results. Why? Obviously, they have a strong reason to
celebrate. Now there is a hope that India can be taken back by few hundred
years…There is a possibility that India can be ruled by the ‘Jurassic Park’
ideology for at least 5 years.

Clearly, the quality of governance has

and polity. It is now for the Congress to tame some of its radical partners
and continue the magnificent work done by the Vajpayee Government. Good
governance may not be an election winner as this result shows, but there is
no alternative except to persevere with it.”

Mandate 2004 has left India in a state of shock and awe. It is the most
unexpected result of any election since 1977. Till the results started
tumbling out of the EVMs on Thursday morning, the widespread belief in all
political circles was that the NDA would emerge as the single-largest block
in the 14th Lok Sabha. Barring a few, most pundits were convinced that Mr
Atal Bihari Vajpayee would continue as Prime Minister with the NDA making up
for any shortfall by inducting new allies.
