Re: Your Article "Mission in Kashmir" of May 1, 2003 in Washington Times

Dear Mr. Francis B. Coombs Jr.
We are extremely disappointed with your above article and would like to
state the facts on Kashmir in this letter on behalf of a million strong
Indian community in USA.
We are shocked to read this baseless article which has the most
objectionable statements: ""In a place where more than 50,000 people have
been killed in the name of God, it could be assumed that religion is a
dangerous word."…."While most of the violence has been perpetrated by Hindus
and Muslims on each other, the rise of Christianity could add another
dimension." What a way to describe a grim war against terrorism by India!
First of all we would like to mention the fact that the entire world knows
about J&K (surprisingly your editors do not seem to be aware of these
details)
It is well accepted by the world, including USA that the killings
happening in Jammu and Kashmir are the part of "JIHAD" by Islamic terrorists
supported by Pakistan. The victims are inevitably the local Hindus and
Muslims opposed to Pakistani terrorism. More than million Hindus have been
displaced from J&K and they are living in the refugee camps in their own
country. Thousands of Hindu Pandits have been killed in last several years.
- Please review the following link by Council of Foreign Relations in
Washington DC that explains the cause of terrorism in Kashmir:
http://www.terrorismanswers.com/groups/harakat.html
These are the basic facts about J&K:
http://www.indiacause.com/RD_JKBasicFacts.htm
This is about the ethnic cleansing of Hindus that is taking place in J&K
for last 13 years:
http://www.outlookindia.com/full.asp?fodname=20030128&fname=kps&sid=1
We can provide several more details about the Pakistan sponsored terrorism
in J&K if you need.
Your article is a gross insult to the citizens of India that maintain a
more free and democratic society despite being right inside a region full of
bigots and terrorists. The policemen and soldiers trying to protect democracy
in India are just as precious as the firefighters of New York and Washington,
and the soldiers, sailors and flyers risking their lives fighting terrorism.
The author is living in fool’s paradise if she thinks that there would be
peace in J&K by making it ‘Christian Kashmir’. We have given below couple of
interesting responses we received from American citizens (Christian) after we
informed about this baseless article in WT to our members.
IndiaCause, therefore expects to see an immediate correction in this
article based on the FACTS provided to the Washington Times.
By publishing this article your portal has offended the Hindus and Muslims
that have been the victim of terrorism in Kashmir. We would appreciate if you
can employ editors that have basic knowledge of South Asian region.
Hoping to receive response to this letter and to see the correction in the
article.
Thanking you.
Sincerely,
Sanjeev Dahiwadkar

Response #1 we received
I am not Indian. I am 2nd generation Irish-American and 2nd gen.
Greek-American. However since I was about 4 years old I have had an
enthusiastic interest in hinduism and Eastern thought. Being from the west I
would of course never really be able to understand it without the
Christian-Western slant no matter how I try to disregard it. Surely those
from the east could never really understand, say, Baseball. With all of that
in mind, I consider myself more of a Hindu than Christian and the disrespect
I see towards others especially Hindus in this part of the world is
appalling. I am really sick of Christian (so-called) missionaries settling
around the world and "freeing" those poor, ignorant Hindus, Heathens and
Devil Worshippers. I hear and read about it all the time. Take for instance
the missionaries a couple of years ago who were sentenced for disobeying the
laws in, was it Afghanastan? I know enough about Christian cultist to assure
you that they were indeed trying to convert and not simply just "taking care
of the sick and hungry". I have gotten a bit off the subject, pardon me. My
point is I too was outraged at this Washington Times article by Janaki
Kremmer. How dare she assume that anything Christian missionaries do is going
to make the situation better. Thank you for bringing this article to my
attention.

Response #2:
I was raised Baptist. Infact I was raised in a Tennessee Baptist church.
Baptists are hipocrits. They say to love one another, yet their churches
remain divided. I gave up trying to understand them along time ago. I try to
tolerate any religion/denomination/creed, and to find out that Baptists are
infiltrating that part of India isn't suprising, but they are hipocrits.
Genuine. The reason Christianity is so popular among the sick and poor, is -
it's a religion built by the sick and poor.
