Here is one report on
Kashmir in cultural section of Washington Times that views "the tide of
evangelists in Kashmir as a beacon of hope."
Now read the author’s stupidity (or
ulterior motives?):
"In a place where more than 50,000 people have been killed in the name of
God, it could be assumed that religion is a dangerous word."…."While most of
the violence has been perpetrated by Hindus and Muslims on each other, the
rise of Christianity could add another dimension."
Monica Bhatia (who sent this
article to us) writes:
"I was offended by the statement in the article that in Kashmir, Hindus
and Muslims are killing each other. It is being projected in the article that
is such a terrible situation, Christianity brought in by evangelists is
acting as the saviour. This is ridiculous and incorrect presentation of facts
in that state. The fact is that all the violence has been perpetrated by
Muslims on Hindus and Sikhs or other muslims not giving in to their diktats.
The problem here is that of terrorism and ethnic cleansing plain and simple.
This is an example of how the western media tries to paint India in a
negative light for its own political, econimic, and religious interests. The
writers are either simply ignorant of the facts or worse, are presenting
incorrect facts for an ulterior motives. In either situation, such stuff
should not be written and the editors have to be held accountable."

Mission in Kashmir
By Janaki Kremmer (from NEW
DELHI)
In a place where more than 50,000
people have been killed in the name of God, it could be assumed that religion
is a dangerous word. But for 20-year-old Akbar Ahmad, who has seen violence
between Hindus and Muslims in Kashmir for most of his life, the answer lies
very much in the love of God — or, more specifically, in the love of Jesus
Christ.
