Apr 04, 2003: Information requested: GUJARAT: A LABORATORY OF HINDU RASHTRA

Currently a documentary film named "GUJARAT: A LABORATORY OF HINDU RASHTRA" is being screened at some Universities in USA.

If this was an objective analysis and the film based on comprehensive facts, we would have welcomed the film. Unfortunately the case appears to be different.

During our investigation on this film we received a confirmation from USA based educational institute that they have "Sponsored" this film on Gujarat violence. It is surprising for us that an educational institute is sponsoring such a film in USA. Despite our direct queries about the content of the film the institute has avoided all the answers to our questions that will determine the purpose behind this film.

With all the information available with us so far, the project appears to be defaming India (and as usual the Hindus). The film appears to be a propaganda without any balanced or factual analysis. The objective appears to make the viewers draw their conclusions about India and Hindus based on the "limited" information provided in the film by not giving any comprehensive facts about India and various communities in India.

The interesting part of the film is the Producer - Ms Suma Josson. Here is a statement that appears in "Srikrishna inquiry commission" report in India (by Justice Srikrishna):

Quote
"She admits that she did not do cross-checking of facts at the micro level, but she had only done cross-checking at the macro level, believing that the people interviewed by her spoke the truth".
UnQuote

This was her statement about her film styled "Bombay's blood yatra" which the report says "The script and commentary are hers".

We are requesting a following feedback from knowledgable members on this subject:

(especially from those members on our list that are associated with the Universities as Professors, students)

We are interested to know:
1. Are the USA based universities allowed to take a biased stand in such a serious issue concerning communal violence in India?
2. If the case is of bias, what is the possible action we can take (other than legal)?
3. Which are the best Federal authorities that can take a serious action in this and such matters?
4. If anyone has any more information about the producer or the film please let us know.
