2. Tony Blair on BBC- Pakistan has never attacked its
neighbors -
Sent by L.T.Sippy, Pune, India -
On Saturday (8th February 2003) between 6.40- 7.30 pm
IST there was a program on BBC about British policy on Iraq. The anchor was
Jeremy Jeremy Paxton and Tony Blair under X-Ray. Most of the participants
were anti war. I saw the repeat (partly) on Sunday.
While Tony Blair defending his actions was expected one
question concerning Pakistan is worth noting and indicative of the ignorance
about Indians concern in western powers and naturally the failure of Indian
establishment to put its point of view in such a forceful manner so as to
demolish that ignorance. As far as British ignorance is concerned it is
indefensible as British have ruled us enough to understand our point of view.
Here is the question and answer session extract:
----------------
Ian Davis- Mr PM, first it was Afghanistan, than now it
is Iraq and what next ?
Tony Blair- I don’t know what you mean……..
Ian Davis… American magazine Time has reported that it
will be Pakistan next……… When all this will end ? Blair…… A lengthy reply
about Terrorism and threat to civilized world…. A long circuitous reply……
Davis…… Are you intending to attack Pakistan after Iraq
is taken care of…….
Blair…. As I have told you…. There is difference
between the two. Saddam has used chemical weapons on its own population… He
has attacked his neighbors….. Iran…. Kuwait…. The track record of……….
Davis…… But Pakistan is funding Al Qaida……
Blair….. Cornered…… But look it has not launched
aggressions against its neighbors…….
-----------------
Now with that poor knowledge of subcontinent and may be
world affairs, Blair wants to civilize a leader of a country. Does Blair mean
that in all 4 wars between Pakistan and India, it was India which was the
aggressor? Or does the learned beleaguered PM of England wants to state that
Indo-Pakistan borders are a sea of tranquility and not a single soldier has
died in fighting between the 2 countries? We are not bringing here the WTC
like attacks well within India killing thousands and thousands of our
nationals and forcing us to spend lakhs of crores for our security.
What are our Diplomats doing in London? Are they not
supposed to lodge protest with Blair for his biased and ill-informed
statements on Indo-Pak relations?
Needless to state that our Pseudo-journalists back at
home will not only misrepresent this statement but eventually further
demoralize our nation and nationalism. Shall we petition Blair with a strong
note of Protest for his half baked or totally faulty knowledge about Indo-Pak
relations?
