Most of the members must be knowing by this
time; on Sunday, January 26 IndiaCause launched a protest campaign with Maxim
Magazine for Gandhi Bashing. After our press release, most of the Indian
media (SIFY, PTI, Rediff, Iexpress, many more) covered the story on 27 and
28.The latest edition of Maxim magazine, in an
article headlined "Maxim’s Kick-Ass Workout," depicts a strapping man in a
"Muscle" T-shirt violently hitting, kicking, throwing and bleeding Mahatma
Gandhi.
12,000+ have already visited IndiaCause protest page. I
assume Maxim Magazine have received at least 4,000-5,000 protest mails so
far. After no response from Magazine, IndiaCause shifted the campaign towards
their advertisers (Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Motorola, Nike, Unilever …) and the
international media.
And today we have received the updates:
"Maxim magazine has announced plans to respond to complaints. David Barkoe,
public relations spokesman for Maxim, said the magazine "will be responding
to the article … in its May issue." The wording of the response is "being
discussed," Barkoe said. "It has not been finalized." Barkoe did not use the
word "apology," but he did say Maxim is seeking "a positive and happy
resolution for all."
IndiaCause Response:
You have insulted a nation of 1 billion people. If you are going to take
three months to write 3 lines apology, you are insulting us further. We are
not changing the appeal. The email campaign should continue until apology is
published. We are contacting the advertisers and the international media.
