We received few emails about NBC ‘Friends’ show on Thursday, 01/31/2002. All
indicate that "Lord Ganesha" was kicked/Knocked off in this episode - for
some unknown reason!!!
We have given details of three emails. For those who wish to write to NBC:
‘Friends’ show address - Friends@nbc.com

Yesterday (Thursday, 01/31/2002), I was watching the latest episode of
'Friends' in NBC. There was a scene, in which 'Ross' and his girl friend were
sitting in a sofa, 'Ross' explains the 'Lord Ganesh' as an artifact from
Calcutta. And all of a sudden the lady (accidentally) kicks the 'Lord Ganesh
Idol'. I felt that the episode director deliberately put that scene there
though that scene doesn't help the story in any way. Can we do any thing
about this incident of hurting 'Hindu sentiments'?

---------------
Being an Indian myself and Hindu by religion , I was really shocked and
surprised watching a particular scene aired on 01/31/02 (NBC Friends sitcom)
where "Ross" while explaining an antique from India (which infact is a "Lord
Ganesh" in Hindu Mythology ) says it is "ok" for his girl friend kicking it
during the process of makeover which is too disturbing to watch , I have
already sent my protest email to NBC to clarify and also let me know whether
it was infact "Ganesh " idol.
Following is protest email sent by Mr. Amitabh VW Mittal to NBC.

Subject: Ignorant Producers/Writers Run Rampant Dear Producers:
Tonight on NBC's Friends Character Ross is having an intimate moment with one
of his students and she knocks off a statue of “Ganesha” which is considered
nothing more than a piece of decor.
“Ganesha” happens to be the “God of Good Luck” and is worshiped by over
1billion people which is one sixth of the humanity, “Ganesha” is the most
important of all the idols and his blessings are required by all Hindus even
before they give salutations to their own deity.
There are over 84 Million deities for Hindus. This shows how ignorant the
producers and writers of Friends are. You show a character that is supposedly
a teacher and happens to be a very articulate and learned person, who knows a
lot about many cultures. But in this particular scene he knows nothing of the
importance of Ganesha to Hindu Culture.
I did not read the name of the writer for tonight's show; I would like to
write to him/her personally. If any one out there knows him please send
him/her my displeasure.
Also let him/her know to be prepared to write an apology to all Hindus
Worldwide.
Peace
Amitabh VW Mittal
