Has America Gained Control of Their Nuclear Weapons?
Hari SudThe standard argument of the proponents of the Indo-US nuclear treaty
is ,"Small prototypes are under construction. But none of the prototypes
is ready to be duplicated in a big way. Hence successive governments in
India in last twenty years have been in a fix whether to ask for outside
help or not. Waiting for the Indian technology to mature will take another
20 years. Lost time will seriously jeopardize country’s development.
Hence, the present Prime Minister asked for US help." ( Hari Sud, ‘Making
Sense out of Current Discord on Indo–US Nuclear Deal’ in indiacause.com )
This is incorrect. Since 1974 when the Western countries refused to help
India to develop nuclear energy because of India's first explosion of
nuclear weapon, The Soviet Union helped India to achieve complete
self-sufficiency in every aspects of the nuclear energy program without
any restrictions. Fast Breeder Reactors; Heavy Water Plants and
Reprocessing plants are all given to India by the Soviet Union and Russia.
There is no need for India to seek any technological help from the U. S as
a result.
The reason India went to the U. S is the restrictions imposed by the U. S
that no country among the 45 members of the Nuclear Suppliers Group could
supply uranium to India. Even then about 6 months ago Russia has supplied
fuel and is prepared to construct offshore nuclear power plants, which
would be, off-limit to the I. S. G's restrictions. If India accepts Russian
proposal there is no need for India to sign the Hyde Act and ruin India's
nuclear weapons program.
It is not true that USA will help India regarding China. Nehru had tried
to get nuclear protections from President Kennedy but was refused. USA is
now against India's membership of the U. N Security Council and Indian
nuclear weapons program. It is actively helping Pakistan by giving it
massive amounts of weapons. It is helping China by giving massive amount
of finance through imports from China. USA also does want India to take
part in the International Space Program. USA has destroyed the credibility
of the R&AW, the Indian spy networks by bribing the top officers of both
R&AW and the Indian Navy. These are not acts of a true friend but of a
friend of Indian's enemy Pakistan.
India would be a fool to sign the Indo-US nuclear treaty, which is
designed to force India to sign in effect the Nuclear Non-Proliferation
Treaty. After that India would have no defense even against Pakistan who
has a number of missiles fitted with nuclear weapons made in China.
One would be a traitor to support the Indo-US nuclear treaty. Man Mohan
Singh's credibility is under suspicions as Asoke Mitra; the former chief
economic adviser to Indira Gandhi has recently written in his book that
Man Mohan Singh was appointed by the USA. That is possibly the reason he
is so much interested to give up India's nuclear weapons.
Alternatives are there. There are countries with natural uranium who are
not members of the N. S. G. Russia is ready to construct off-shore nuclear
power plants without any restrictions or on -shore nuclear power plants
with standard restrictions that exists for all other plants. India does
not need any technology from the U. S at all. If India will accept the
treaty USA will be at liberty to dismantle in future India's nuclear
plants to take back all equipments if India would ever dare to test its
nuclear weapons. Without proper testing nuclear weapons would be useless,
and India will not have any nuclear defense against either China or
Pakistan. That is the real purpose of Indo-US treaty.
It is sad that Indians who live in USA refused to understand this so far
and are supporting this evil treaty.
