This article which appeared in The Hindu on 06 July, is indeed scary! If
this is what America is all about, we in India are far better off. And
this is the country, which is asking us to send our troops to Iraq
and our country's leaders may succumb to the pressure to send our troops
there. Those who say that moral high ground is not the reason to be quoted
in international relations, I wish to say that it is the lack of moral
pricniples, which would degrade us to the levels that we are witnessing in
this land of plenty - the only Super Power of the world.
Read my friends and then think - is this the true meaning of freedom and
democracy? Do not dismiss this as an article by a Commie (I don't know if
the author is one?) or ramblings by a psec because it appeared in The
Hindu newspaper.
If what the author has written is indeed true, then USA is going back to
the times imagined by George Orwell in his book 1984. May be our brand of
democracy, not withstanding the characters whom we have as our leaders, is
any day better. Indeed, Mera Bharat Mahan.

What's happening in America?
By Eliot Wienberger
"America doesn't feel like America any more. The climate of militarism
and fear, similar to that of any totalitarian state, permeates
everything. The present administration is unquestionably the most radical
government in modern American history, one whose ideology and actions have
become so pervasive, and are so unquestionably mirrored by the mass
media here, that the population seems to have forgotten what `normal' is,
says ELIOT WEINBERGER."
The present ... an Orwellian state of "perpetual war"?
