Re: TIME Magazine story ‘In the Heart of Hate’ on March 11 and the subsequent correction three months later.

Dear Sir,

We are writing this letter on behalf of ‘Cause We Care’, a representation of Indians in North America and all over the world. Please refer to your story ‘In the Heart of Hate’ by Meenakshi Ganguly on March 11, 2002 and the subsequent correction, three months later, on June 17th under letter section of TIME Magazine.

We are extremely shocked at the way this story was reported initially in March with an extreme bias against Hindu community.

Meenakshi Gangulys article claimed:
Mr.Ahsan Jafri (who was killed by Hindu attackers) had fired at the attackers and that a boy in the Hindu mob had watched Mr.Jafris daughters being stripped and raped.

After three months TIME Magazine admitted: "Mr.Jafri did not own a revolver and he had only one daughter and she was in USA at the time of violence and was not raped"

This article, by By Meenakshi Ganguly, was full of quotes (form all possible unworthy references): Claiming Hindu rioters, giving counts of how many Muslims they each killed, how they were proud of their acts, they boasted while they did this themselves and many more  claims. Unfortunately Ms.Ganguly did not find single person describing how Hindus were killed mercilessly by the Muslim mob

Were the above references verified by TIME before publishing? Is life so cheap at TIME Magazine? Do TIME publish anything said by any worthless TOM, DICK & HARRY? Why did TIME not find single person describing how Hindus were killed mercilessly by the Muslim mob?

Ms.Ganguly’s sole objective was to prove how "Hindus" were "Extremists" rather than providing some factual information on this very sensitive issue that killed more than 1000 people in Gujarat. In this world of journalism, Action & Reaction both should be reported without any bias.

In this article, Ms Ganguli freely used terms "Hindu extremists" & "Hindu Militants" but was careful enough not to use "Muslim mob" or "Muslim Militants" whose BARBARISM (that can put even the animals to shame) was responsible for the riots that followed.

Why TIME has so much of hatred towards Hindus? Is it because the Hindusim does not preach intolerance, hatred, destruction and terrorism?

The correction is listed in small corner of TIME Magazine in letter section of June 17th. TIME Magazine has already done the irreversible damage by their intentionally biased and irresponsibly reporting. Can it be undone by such a small correction note in one corner of last page of letters section? Did TIME send this correction to all their subscribers?

We hope, at TIME Magazine, the ethics take precedence over the bias. In our views the correction is not sufficient. It is also the moral responsibility of TIME Magazine to apologize for this biased blunder.

We request the editor of TIME Magazine to submit an apology to Hindus for this biased and irresponsible reporting which was based on intentions rather than any worthy references.

We hope TIME respects comments of readers and also wishes to maintain their credibility of reporting and their responsibility towards baseless & false reporting on a very sensitive issue in the South Asia region, which is on the verge of nuclear war because of the terrorism sponsored by India’s neighboring nations.

We hope we shall receive a responsible communication from you, Sir.

Thanking you.

Sincerely,
Mahendra Joshi
