The following are the details
of this campaign as of December 31, 2002
Dec 31, 2002:
Call for Action: Is Bihar a part of Pakistan?
(Media Awakens to Kanchan Mishra Abduction by
Sultan Mian)
Sultan Mia, a gangster with
political connections, abducted a married woman, Kanchan Mishra, with her
four-year-old child in broad daylight in the heart of Patna and forced her to
marry himNo leading newspapers of
India other than Outlook reported this story for 5 long weeks.
IndiaCause launched an email campaign to Human
rights Commission, Media and the political leaders on Dec 8. After our call
for action, several Indian agencies reported this issue within a week. Also
NCW initiated investigation in this case. Unfortunately the case is
unresolved so far. IndiaCause at least was able to bring this issue to
people's attention.
There have been 25+ News reports after IndiaCause "Call for Action" on Dec 8

Initial Call By IndiaCause on Dec 08, 2002
Its time for strong action
by IndiaCause members.
No leading newspapers of India other than
Outlook seem to have carried this report. Our "English" media and the Human
Rights commission recently investigated the "Terrorist's Human Rights" at "Ansal
Plaza". What are our Human Rights commission and "English" media doing in
this case?
Why is everyone quiet when "Sultan Mia, a gangster with political
connections, abducted a married woman, Kanchan Mishra, with her four-year-old
child in broad daylight in the heart of Patna and forced her to marry him.
The woman's only fault: her beauty. The dreaded criminal forcibly pushed her
into his car and took her to a mosque in Mainpura locality where their nikah
was performed."?
Should not all newspapers and political parties investigate in this
matter? Why has there been no outrage in Parliament? Have the police and the
administration in Bihar gone to sleep? What is the Central govt doing?
----------
A Shotgun Wedding
It came as a surprise, even by Bihar's lawless standards. Sultan Mia, a
gangster with political connections, abducted a married woman, Kanchan Mishra,
with her four-year-old child in broad daylight in the heart of Patna and
forced her to marry him. The woman's only fault: her beauty. The dreaded
criminal forcibly pushed her into his car and took her to a mosque in
Mainpura locality where their nikah was performed. RJD's state minister
Ejazul Haq and the officer-in-charge of the local police station came to
bless the criminal. After the nikah, a lavish reception was organised at
Haq's.
Ever since, Kanchan's brother and her husband Pappu Pandey, who works in a
restaurant, have been running from pillar to post to free her. But no one
wants to help, obviously because Sultan is the protege of the infamous RJD MP
from Siwan, Mohammed Shahabuddin. Though the MP has reprimanded Sultan, the
gangster's men have threatened to kill Pandey if he tries to rescue his wife.
